There
was a great brazilian classical musician and teacher: Heitor Villa-Lobos.
His name baptizes the Villa-Lobinhos Project, in Rio de Janeiro.
Project is already in its third year of life, discovering and forming
musical talented children inside poor communities.
Almost
all of the young participants come of social programs in its communities.
In general, they start playing guitar, percussion, cavaquinho (a
little guitar) or flute. Then they start to know other instruments
and get close to the idea of learning to play them.
Along
the course, behavior of each children and the interest in living
in future on music are evaluated. " The criteria for choice
is the effort, to study a lot, and if the child really feels that
wants to be a musician", explains the Rodrigo Belchior, coordinator.
" My satisfaction in Villa-Lobinhos is to make available to
this group the same chance to study that I had. Actually what lacks,
really, is a chance. And it lacks too much", he says.
While
the group is in school lessons, the shows agenda is stopped. On
the end of this year, first nine pupils who had started the project
on January of 2000 will leave the group. The good notice is that
all of them had used the chance that they had: some are doing courses
in university, others already give lessons in other social projects
and some had assembled professional musical groups.
