Ladies
and Gentlemen,
Baque Bolado Art Company!!!
Hear
the sound of The BAQUE BOLADO'S crew.
They
appeared during IX Feira of Art of Pompéia, in 1996,
at San Paulo, as a game of some brazilian artists, that joined
and
formed a battery, generally call of "baque", leaving
for the
streets playing the brazilian rythm called Maracatu.
Today, with several years of spree, with great number of
members and a lot of presentations, the Baque Bolado continues
growing up. Besides their work on music, they teach many children
how to play the special drums used on Maracatu, building musical
instruments and to make their creativity free.

São
Paulo, a hot weekend of June. I was there, lost inside the confusion
of the fourth bigger city it world. A friend called. "Let´s
see a show? It is a group where some friends play". I went
and, suddenly, São Paulo has become a prettier place: it
was the Baque Band!
The sound of the Baque is heavy, with sounds of the enormous drums
of maracatu as basis. But most interesting on their music is the
mixture that the group makes between Brazilian, afro-Brazilians
and Latin traditional rhythms with other modern sources, as rock
and hip-hop.
One mixture that is the face of Brazil, as explains Leandro Medina,
32 years, one of the founders of the band: "It is a country
where everything has been joined, mixed and then worked it out.
Here we have countries inside this country. It´s true too
on own brazilian black culture, which was formed with people from
very different regions and cultures in Africa".
The work of the Baque was born on a bigger group, established five
year ago: the Baque Bolado Crew. The Crew, today with about thirty
integrant ones, not only takes for the streets of São Paulo
with the playing of drums and percussion instruments that Baque
Band uses on its shows, but also leg-of-wood, monocycles and a lot
of colorful clothes made by the proper group. Beyond these presentations,
the Baque Bolado Crew promotes instrument and dance workshops, beyond
a specific work for children, the Baquerê.
Baque Band will go soon to release their first CD, by brazilian
Rainbow Records. In each play, there´ll be the message of
Baque, as Leandro explains: "It´s important to let music
come inside our day-by-day, let the pleasure that music can bring
come in. In the case of Brazil, it is this special music that comes
of the total mixture of rhythms, beliefs, peoples. I believe that
this is Brazil role on our culture."
