In childhood, Mr. João`s and Mrs. Celeste`s son, Pelé, had a dream: to be a plane pilot. However, Pelé´s future would be with both feet on the ground. In 1950, he heard on radio the most bitter defeat on Brazilian soccer history: the defeat against Uruguay, on the 1950 World Cup, that was on Maracanã Stadium at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With tears in the eyes, Pelé said to his mother that one day he would be a football player to gain one World Cup. Well, he was wrong: he won three. Pelé used to work polishing shoes to gain some money, but on this same year, with only 10 years old, he played for the first time in a team with uniform and gained his first player cash! A long time, Pelé´s fame and brazilian soccer had grown in such a way, that some incredible stories appeared. One of them is of that on 1960, when Pele and the teams at the time, the Saints, had been to the Nigéria, in Africa, for a serie of friendly games, the civil war that the country was suffering just stopped during all the duration of the visit. |
