Pohl is German, of Reno region, "a place of very opened people, almost
Brazil of Germany", she says, smiling. To its side there´s Marlene,
her personal assistant that´s on last 12 years besides her. Architect,
Doret comes Brazil has 15 years and is responsible in the country for the
entity without lucrative ends Eltern für Kinder e.v - EfK, the "Parents
for Children" Association. Through the work of this entity, about 200
children, all directed by the Brazilian Juvenile Court, had been adopted
by families in Germany. "Parents for Children, not Children for Parents!" emphasizes Doret. The name of Association has a special meaning, because EfK not looks only for parents that wants adoptive children, but that wants to take care of children who had been, in general, rejected previously for adoption. EfK searches for parents that wants to receive childrens that had been rejected for adoption on Brazil, because are black, grown up, or sometimes has a specially difficult history of life, has health problems or, sometimes, just show acute consequences of long time of isolation in institutions without adequate care. "Reality in children institutions is very hard" says Doret. "Without toy, and with the little received attention, children becomes isolated". The example of small girl G. shows what can happen. Before adoption, G. suffered from a vision problem that had limited her perception and harmed her contact with the world. Therefore, in the institution where she was checked in, she was being left alone, without any stimulation. She finished being practically considered autista. Today, after adopted for a German family, G. treated her problem of vision and with all love she received, now is a kindly and normal child. "There´s a wastefulness of life in the Febem", says Doret, about the biggest entity of the State on guard of children in Brazil. "Over there, children are not respected and cannot learn to respect. They become 'borderline', without feelings". According to it, she estimates that 80% of the children that were interned for a long time in the Febem are borderline. |

points, on the other hand, that is really difficult for brazilian families
to adopt children who have serious physical difficulties. Her own private
situation that she faced, when her son was born, 12 years ago, showed her
how much is difficult to adopt a handicapped child in Brazil. "Ian-Martin,
my son, has cerebral paralisia" says Doret. "But he has necessary
resources for his care. I´ve seen many families with similar problems
or even worse, but that do not have no economic condition to face them and
to take care of their kids." Without adequate government help, as available
in Germany, is difficult for for a common family to take care of a biological
son with health problems, and almost impossible to receive one adopted. Only if considering depleted the possibilities of adoption in Brazil, the Brazilian Juvenile Court directs the children to the EfK. Then, starts the delicate work of selection done by the entity, that carries through a accompaniment before, during and after the adoption. "We search for parents opened for children whom need them truthly", explains Doret. The care in seleçao is very important. In the past, when adoption processes promoted by State were usually done with much less information, was not uncommon to have children "returned". Doret cites as example F., an adopted 14 years old girl. When she faced common problems of the adolescence, she was abandoned by the brazilian adoptive parents and had to come back to an entity. On the other hand, usually beginning of relationship between children and new parents is hard, and sometimes new parents are rejected by the children. "They test wether are really loved and if they won´t be abandonned anymore", says Doret. Happily, there are today already 200 successful adoption processes concluded by EFK, and that are receiving all care they need with german government help. "All people can do a little. By EfK already there are two hundred children, two hundred lives that had moved, two hundred families that won´t be dragged on misery in the future", concludes Doret, while looks photos of smiley children that already found a new way for their lives. |
