Protecting
from choking
Hi,
everybody!! I´ve missed you so much!!!
I apologize myself because I´ve disappeared for a while!!
Nurses work so hard
So, as I´ve talked to you, now we´ll talk about how
to take care and play safe with our babies: our young brothers,
cousins, neighbors and others. All of them needs our care to grow
up healthy and sometimes, indeed, to survive!!
So, see below a little story about Maria and how she was saved on
an accident.
Remembering,
frequently babies accidents are:
Babies
of 0 the 6 months
o · Asphyxia by small objects
o · Burnings during the bath
o · Falls
o · Hanging with lace
Babies
of 07 the 12 months
o · Ingestion of toxic products
o · Fall of the stairs or cradle
o · Burning with liquids
o · Wound with acute objects
So,
I will tell you Maria's history.
Maria
is a beautiful and healthy 6 months old baby. She is very pretty!!!
One day, her older sister, Barbara (9 years old ) was playing with
her on the kitchen.
Suddenly, Maria was crying, and Barbara thought that she was hungry!!
And she asked her: "Maria, do you want to eat something?"
Maria continued to cry!!! So, Barbara toke a little grape and put
it inside Maria´s mouth.
But Maria was too young to smash a grape!! The grape went into Maria'
s trachea. She couldn't breath. She was choking.
Barbara screamed for their mother immediately and she quickly saved
Maria.
Happily Maria's mother had learned how to save babies with asphyxia
01 month before!! Wow!! She was very very lucky!!
Play
with babies is so cute!! But can be dangerous. How to prevent this
and others babies accidents?
First
of all:
Never play on the kitchen. There may be boiling water, hot oven
etc..
Never give small objects to younger babies, and any kind of food
that they will have difficult to swallow. It´s easy for inhalation
and can cause choking.
Most
common objects that choke, strangle, or suffocate are:
·
Food itens such as grapes, nuts os hard candy. Formula, milk, or
juice can cause choking if these liquids are given to an infant
who is lying down, especially from nor-propped bottle;
· Toys and parts of toys that are small enough to place in
the mouth. Uninflated ballons are frequent cause of choking and
can be particulary hard to remove.
· A variety of other small itens, such as coins, marbles,
buttons , beads, safety pins
· Drapery and extension cords
· Plastic bags
· Cords from which toys and objects such as rattles, pacifiers
and jewelry hungs the child's neck
